A 14-year-old was charged Tuesday in a shooting Monday that injured a 17-year-old, according to Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta.

Investigators said the shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. near 11th and Church streets near Cottingham Stadium. Three teens wearing dark clothing and black masks were seen fleeing toward Northampton Street after the incident, Easton police said in a news release.

Officers initially were called to the first block of North 11th Street for a report of a shooting, according to the release. They found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound nearby, in the 1100 block of Spring Garden Street.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries, which he is expected to survive.

Baratta said in a news release that the 14-year-old who was charged was the shooter. He was in custody, and the case will be handled in juvenile court, Baratta said.
