College notes: Liberty grad Addison Collins is a key member of Delaware’s swim team

Addison Collins came up big for the Delaware men’s swim team at the recent Bucknell Invitational.

The senior from Bethlehem and a Liberty High graduate was part of four winning relay teams and all four set pool records. He swam legs on the 200 free (1:18.32), the 400 free (2:53.35), the 200 medley (1:25.09) and the 400 medley (3:09.19) He also anchored the 800 freestyle relay which finished fifth (6:39.33).

Individually, Collins was second in the 50 free (20.00), the 100 free (43.64) and the 200 free (1:36.74).

Addison’s brother, sophomore Malcolm, earned points by finishing 10th in the 100 breaststroke (55.55) and the 200 breaststroke (2:01.42).

The Blue Hens, who finished second out of seven teams, return to action on Dec. 31 at Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers.

Sonny Sasso – Virginia Tech wrestling (Nazareth)

The redshirt sophomore captured the 197-pound title at the Patriot Open on Dec. 7 in Fairfax, Va. Sasso, ranked 16th in the nation, posted pins (3:00 and 1:59) in the first two rounds, a 9-3 decision in the semifinals and captured the title with a pin in 1:58. He was 10-1 last season before his season ended with an injury. Sasso was 11-8 as a true freshman and six of his victories were over ranked opponents.

Kobe MaGee – Florida State men’s basketball (Executive Academy)

The 6-foot-5 senior guard is the fourth leading scorer on the Seminoles who are 5-5 after a 103-95 loss to Massachusetts on Saturday. MaGee had 12 points and 10 rebounds. On the season, he is averaging 10.8 points, aided by 23 3-pointers, and 4.3 rebounds a game with 17 steals and 12 assists. He had a season-high 21 points in a 95-59 non-conference loss to Texas A&M on Nov. 28. Magee played three seasons at Drexel before joining Florida State this season.

Grace Lesko – Mercy (N.Y.) women’s basketball (Northampton)

The 6-foot junior guard scored a season-high 29 points to pace the Mavericks to a 66-50 East Coast Conference victory over D’Youville on the home court in Dobbs Ferry Sunday. She just missed a career-best total of 30 points which she recorded last season when she was named ECC Rookie of the Year. Lesko is averaging 20.0 points and 7.2 rebounds a game to help Mercy post a 5-4 overall record with a 3-1 conference mark.

Griffin Lake – West Virginia rifle (Emmaus)

The junior led the fifth-ranked Mountaineers to a first-place finish at the WVU Classic to wrap up the fall season on Nov. 16 in Morgantown. Lake finished first in aggregate score with 1,192 points. He finished in a three-way tie in air rifle with a score of 598 and posted a score of 594 in smallbore. West Virginia went 4-0 and finished first in the six-team event with 4742 points. The Mountaineers return to action on Jan. 17 against Akron in Morgantown.

Nick Coval – Davidson men’s basketball (Parkland)

The redshirt freshman is coming off the bench for the Wildcats who are 8-2 after a 80-47 victory over Mercyhurst Saturday on the home court in Davidson, N.C. Coval had 10 points in 20 minutes. He’s averaging 9.3 points and 2,5 rebounds a game with 13 assists and five steals. Coval, who averages 23.6 minutes a game, had a season-high 17 points in a 91-87 victory over Bowling Green on Nov. 15.

Addie Kea – Clarkson (N.Y.) women’s basketball (Nazareth)

The 5-foot-6 junior is starting at point guard for the Golden Knights who are 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League heading into the holiday break. Kea leads the team in assists with 35 and steals with 15. She’s averaging 8.0 points per game and has hit 10 of 18 from 3-point range. Kea had 15 points and six assists in a 70-33 victory over Keystone and 11 points and seven assists in a 91-45 loss to Rensselaer Poly.

Corey Cope – Elizabethtown wrestling (Quakertown)

The graduate student finished first at 138 pounds at the Blue Jay Classic on Dec. 6 in Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown won the 10-team event with 181.5 points. Cope is 13-8 overall and 1-1 in dual meets. He has four pins, three major decisions and two technical falls. His fastest pin was in 12 seconds. Last season, Cope finished 31-9 with nine falls, five major decisions and 11 technical falls.

Kiki Walters – Wheaton (Mass.) women’s basketball (Bethlehem Catholic)

The 5-foot-6 senior guard leads the 3-6 Lyons in scoring (15.9), assists (25) and steals (25). Walters has scored in double figures in eight of nine games. She had a career high 23 points and five steals in an 81-84 overtime victory over Rivier on Nov. 15. She was 13-for-16 from the free throw line. She had 19 points and six steals in a 64-55 triumph over Regis. Walters has 756 points, 177 steals and 161 assists in 84 career games.

Caleb Einolf – Grove City men’s swimming (Quakertown)

The senior was named Presidents’Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 8 after a record-breaking effort to lead the Wolverines to the team title at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational. Einolf won two events and set program records in both. He took the 100 butterfly in 47.63 and the 100 breaststroke in 53.30. He also swam a leg on three winning relays and the team posted a 1:21.88 time in the 200 free set a pool, school and conference record.

Kailey Turpening – Embry-Riddle (Fla.) women’s basketball (Freedom)

The 5-foot-8 senior is starting at point guard for the Eagles who are ranked 14th in Division II with a 6-1 record after a 96-52 Sunshine State Conference victory over Barry last Saturday. Turpening had eight assists and five points. She leads the team with 43 assists and had a season-high 11 helpers in an 85-51 victory over Auburn Montgomery on Nov. 15. Turpening set a single-game program record with 12 assists as a sophomore.
