Another three-peat for Kutztown University football coach Jim Clements.

After his team won its third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship this season, Clements earned his third straight American Football Coaches Association Region 1 award.

It is Clements’ sixth regional award – five at Kutztown and one at Delaware Valley.

The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the association’s five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, and NAIA. The winners are selected by active members of the association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.

Clements has guided Kutztown to two straight undefeated regular seasons.

The Golden Bears are the top seed in Super One Region and opened the NCAA Division II playoffs last weekend with a 52-0 win over Bentley. Kutztown hosts Assumption this Saturday in the second round.

Clements is the winningest head coach in Kutztown history with a record of 102-29, and has an overall record of 168-53 in his 19 seasons as a head coach at Kutztown and Delaware Valley.

Among the other honorees are Indiana’s Curt Cignetti, for the second straight year, in FBS Region 3, and Lehigh’s Kevin Cahill in FBC Region 1. Cahill led the Mountain Hawks to an unbeaten season and the Patriot League title. They received a first round bye in the FBC tournament and will begin play on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The AFCA will announce the 2025 National Coaches of the Year winners in FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA on Monday, Dec. 15. The regional winners in each division are finalists for National Coach of the Year.

Mount Union (18), North Dakota State (17) and Nebraska (15) are the top three schools for regional coach winners in the history of the award.

Mount Union’s Larry Kehres won the most regional awards with 17, followed by Morningside’s Steve Ryan (12) and Penn State’s Joe Paterno (11).
