His articles were well-written, interesting and accurate.

Even bigger thanks are in order to Liberty Head Coach Andy Pitsilos and his staff (George Pitsilos, Evan Dwyer, Alex Specht, and Mark Benetsky) for directing, coaching, and teaching along the way. Mutual respect and support during ups and downs are what promotes success at any level.

The biggest thanks of all goes to the members of Liberty Hurricanes baseball team. The kids are disappointed after the final game (Warwick 6-4), to be sure. They worked hard individually and collectively and the results are all positive. They provided a great season, extended the regular season, fought through some tough ones to win the District 11 Championship and earn the coveted position of playing on Medlar Field at Penn State in the PIAA 6A State Championship game.

Your fans and supporters are grateful and look at you as winners who gave us many hours of excitement and memories. Cherish that silver guys … it speaks of your success.

Readers React: Conversion to electric cars will cost taxpayers https://www.mcall.com/2022/06/23/readers-react-conversion-to-electric-cars-will-cost-taxpayers/ https://www.mcall.com/2022/06/23/readers-react-conversion-to-electric-cars-will-cost-taxpayers/#respond Thu, 23 Jun 2022 16:24:36 +0000 https://www.mcall.com?p=32346&preview_id=32346 In case you wondered how Elon Musk became so wealthy — net worth approximates $218 billion — consider the politics of electric cars.

The war against fossil fuels and the emphasis on green energy, relentlessly promoted by leftist Democrats (aka the Democratic Party), is sold as the solution to global warming by defeating Mother Nature. Activists eagerly contemplate millions of electric vehicles rolling down our highways, searching for charging stations while avoiding gasoline taxes that maintain and improve these highways.

Musk, a brilliant, energetic entrepreneur, led the charge, supported by a $7,500 federal tax credit to electric car buyers, to which some states add $5,000. Musk’s Tesla prices start at around $44,000.

Although our federal government seeks to create money out of thin air, states must tax to raise money. Eventually all of us chickens have to pay for this largess, including charging stations funded by governments and utilities, regardless of whether we believe global warming is a threat.

Friends, when Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that families buying electric cars “will never have to worry about gas prices again,” he was offering the transportation equivalent of “Let them eat cake.”

The president has nothing to do with pump prices. The real controllers of prices are CEOs, CFOs and profit-demanding shareholders.

The Center for American Progress estimates that first quarter 2022 profits for the petroleum industry increased over 300%. Exxon Mobil ($9.3 billion earnings) paid only a 2.8% tax rate and Chevron only a 1.8% ($9.5 billion earnings) rate in 2021.

No president can control prices (except in a national emergency and through implementation of the defense production act). That goes for baby formula, feminine hygiene products or any other consumer good. Do not blame any president as Congress has introduced and passed legislation that allows corporate giants not to pay their fare share of taxes.

Cast your vote for how the president tries to mitigate the problem but not for causing the problem itself. Corporate greed is not controlled by any sitting president.

Not once do they make the man (father) who actually caused the impregnation, legally suffer any responsibility for her present physical condition.

You’d think they would at least want DNA testing of the culprit, if necessary in cases of denial, to make sure he bears the full financial responsibility for the baby he created, even if it was unintentional on his/their part, for at least for the first 18 years of the baby’s life.

Suppose the 18-year-old pregnant woman has no medical insurance, works for minimum wage and lives with her parents — should they also be legally culpable for the expense of raising the child — especially if the pregnancy happened in their house?

It seems that everyone gets off free in this baby-saving enterprise, except for the unintentionally impregnated woman. Maybe they know if they included a paternity clause to financially burden the father, pro-life men wouldn’t be so gung-ho in the mad dash to save those babies.

We have reached a point in America when these unalienable rights are being usurped by the perversion of the Second Amendment, allowing more guns with easy uncontrolled access to almost whoever wants a gun for whatever purpose.

This combination of uncontrolled access to hundreds of millions of guns has resulted in mass shootings in churches, schools, businesses, hospitals, grocery stores, entertainment facilities and homes, among other public and private places.

These slaughters and the fears and anxiety they produce are eroding our unalienable rights, the fundamental rights that America was founded upon. When will our politicians uphold these basic rights rather than support the madness of the gun industry?

Does she expect to creep into Congress? Or will voters, increasingly uncomfortable with gun-control regulations, notice?

At a time when the country is mourning the deaths of so many by gun violence, it seems inappropriate.

The flag was at half-staff to honor those slaughtered in their classroom. Like all schools since Columbine, each window bears a room number so first responders can track a gunman. I had to ring a doorbell and identify myself before being let in.

We’ve been gaslighted into accepting this heightened level of security as the norm.

The gun lobby stokes fear that our guns might be taken away, while children are having their lives taken away. Americans are fed up with rabid gun rights activists equating sensible gun laws with governmental tyranny. The real tyranny is schoolkids being locked in a fortress and made to drill for an attack.

No one is going to take people’s guns away. This lie is perpetrated by the gun lobby, which hijacks our desire for self-protection and freedom in order to sell guns.

The Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. With that right comes great responsibility. It is irresponsible for our leaders to restrict our children’s freedom and shatter their innocence while allowing potential attackers who are too sick, angry or immature to have unfettered access to military-grade weapons.

To pique your interest, the report itself states, “The existing payment system is generally effective and efficient” (page 8). Then why change it? The report also states, “Cash is an important and popular means of payment” (page 6). I agree.

“Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) could make runs on financial firms more likely or more severe,” according to the report (page 17).

Do you see my concern? Express that concern to your legislators and of course, to our president. I certainly am.

Like many young people, Nyjah has goals and dreams — we pray he will be able to fulfill each one of them in the future. While Nyjah’s accident was a scene of tragedy, it was also a scene of heroism and hope.

We would like to express our deep gratitude for the kind and selfless acts of the witnesses and first responders who risked their lives to save Nyjah. Words cannot express how much your bravery means to us, as it kept Nyjah alive.

Thank you: Sgt. Billiard, Sgt. Watt, officer Burton, officer Goldstein, officer Kromer, officer Marshall, Dr. Thomas Stauffer, Palmer Fire Department, St. Luke’s emergency room and ICU staff and all those whose names we may have missed.

We are hopeful that Nyjah will make a successful recovery and one day have the opportunity to thank each of you personally. Until that time, please accept our deepest thanks.

Shortly after that I listened to a live interview, on a local radio station, with the attorney who filed the lawsuit.

A friend has described this as almost a David vs. Goliath situation for the musician, and I agree. Wilkofsky, the plaintiff in this case, has eloquently explained his position and is keeping the topic active and newsworthy.

This may only be a lawsuit involving a local musician, union and orchestra, but if this gets legs and garners national attention, it could lead to unforeseen and far-reaching consequences.
