Joan Carey Williams, 96, of Palm City, Florida, died Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Joan was born to the late Edward and Ethel Carey on November 23, 1929 in Pokomoke City, Maryland. After moving to Dover Delaware for her grade school years, her family moved to Wilmington Delaware where she attended A. I. Dupont High School, graduating in 1937. Following graduation, she attended nursing school at Crozer-Chester Hospital and achieved her RN certification.
Shortly after graduation she met the love of her life, Walter F. Williams (deceased) who she married in 1950. During their marriage of 65 years she raised three boys, Jeff, Rick, and Doug (deceased).
Joan lived a rich and full life. She and Walt traveled the world and met many famous people including presidents and first ladies. Joan never sat still. She volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, and loved golf and bridge. In her later years she took up billiards and could beat most of the men in her retirement community. She also loved counted cross stitch, with many of her works hanging in the homes of her children and grandchildren. Despite her busy life, her first priority was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who she adored and loved with all her heart.
Joan is survived by her children Jeff and Alice Williams of Hellertown, Pennsylvania and Rick and Angela Williams of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Michael (Ellisa), Eric (Kym), Kyle (Elizabeth), Christopher (Amanda), Jonathan, Ashley Hodor (Nate), and nine great grandchildren; Caelum, Clint, Eleanor, Brynn, Rhys, Claire, Cora, Hazel, and Elliot.
A private service for family only will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
