Authorities have identified the Allentown man who died early Sunday after fleeing from state troopers in Allentown.
Cristian F. Jimenez, 27, was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said. Jimenez was driving a pickup truck that hit troopers who tried to pull him over about 30 minutes earlier, according to authorities.
State troopers tried to pull Jimenez over near the intersection of Lehigh and 28th streets, state police said. When they got out of their vehicle to try to arrest him, he hit them with his truck, then fled, according to a state police news release.
Troopers got back into their vehicle and chased him.
Jimenez lost control near 12th and Vultee streets and hit a fire hydrant, utility pole and the Lehigh Valley Logistics building. He was thrown from his vehicle, authorities said.
Buglio said Jimenez’s death was caused by multiple blunt-force trauma, with the manner accidental. The troopers who were hit by the truck were taken to the same hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
