One person died in a fire in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, on Thanksgiving evening that drew firefighters from several communities.
Firefighters from Lackawanna and Monroe counties, along with Pocono Mountain Regional Police, responded to the blaze at 2017 Locust Ridge Road in the township near the Lackawanna County line at 5:40 p.m., according to authorities.
Officials pronounced Stephanie Selecky-Banfield, 58, dead on the scene and released her remains to the Monroe County coroner’s office, Police Chief Chris Wagner said in a news release. She was pronounced dead just after 1:40 a.m. Friday, Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac said, adding an autopsy is scheduled.
Officials determined she was the sole occupant of the house through interviews with her family members, Wagner said in the release.
Wind and other factors caused the fire to quickly consume the roof of the building, resulting in the collapse of the roof and first and second floors, the chief said.
Fire crews remained on the scene fighting the blaze until 4 a.m., according to the Monroe County communications center.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation, Wagner said, but added no criminal conduct is suspected.
