A wanted man holed up in a New Columbus Borough home on Wednesday morning, prompting an hours-long standoff with a Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team, troopers said.

Troopers said they arrived at the home on Southdale Road around 10:45 a.m. to assist Luzerne County Domestic Relations with a case.

The suspect, 38-year-old Aaron Amato, was wanted on a civil arrest warrant as well as in a criminal case out of Emmaus Borough in Lehigh County, troopers said.

SERT responded to the home after Amato barricaded himself inside, initiating a standoff that ended after several hours with his surrender.

Amato was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without further incident, troopers said.
