Winter hasn’t even officially arrived, but the Lehigh Valley is getting several inches of snow from the latest winter storm to impact the region.
Snow began overspreading the Lehigh Valley around 8 p.m. Saturday with temperatures right around the freezing mark. The region remains under a winter weather advisory for 2 to 4 inches of snow through Sunday morning. Expected snowfall amounts are up slightly from earlier forecasts, according to the weather service.

Snowfall was expected to peak from between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, according to Zack Cooper, a meteorologist with the weather service’s forecast office in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
Conditions were expected to become drier and colder over the course of the evening, with snow possibly becoming finer and powder-like as the night goes on, Cooper said.
The weather service said it has moderate confidence in its snow forecast totals, with around an 80% chance of at least 1 inch of snow or more falling across the Lehigh Valley. Snowfall amounts were expected to increase as you head south and east of the Lehigh Valley, with the Philadelphia area under a winter storm warning for up to 5 inches.

Snow is creating slippery conditions, and motorists should use caution. PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike had crews out pre-treating roadways ahead of the storm, and warned motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.
Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, PennDOT announced it was reducing speed limits on several major highways across eastern Pennsylvania, including:
Interstate 78 in Lehigh and Northampton counties
Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe counties
Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County
Interstate 380 in Monroe County
Route 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties
Route 33 in Northampton County
As the snow increased in intensity late Saturday night, numerous crashes were reported across the region. A vehicle rollover was reported on Airport Road at Locust Road in East Allen Township and a vehicle hit a pole on Uhler Road and East Braden Boulevard in Forks Township, according to the Northampton County Emergency Alerts Facebook page. On Route 191 in Plainfield Township, multiple vehicles were reported stuck.
Cooper said that by early Sunday morning, snow will be accumulating on all surfaces and strong winds may lead to drifting. Motorists should keep that in mind.
The brunt of the snow should wrap up by daybreak Sunday; however, snow showers could linger through the morning.
After the snow moves out, bitter cold will move in, with wind chills Sunday night dropping into the low single digits in the Lehigh Valley and below zero in the Poconos. During the day, winds could gust up to 30 miles per hour, according to the weather service.
