A cold front is expected to drop temperatures to near record levels Thursday night into Friday morning in the Lehigh Valley.
The National Weather Service is predicting a low of 12 degrees overnight, close to the record of 11 set nearly 100 years ago, in 1926.

Forecasters said temperatures will take “quite a tumble” overnight, dropping from the high 30s to the low teens. Temperatures have not been that low in the Lehigh Valley since the beginning of the year.
Winds should die down overnight, according to the weather service. The weather over the weekend will be slightly warner, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s. High temperatures will likely remain in the 30s, forecasters said.
There is a slight chance of snow Friday night, but forecasters said little, if any, will accumulate. Light snow is more likely south of the Lehigh Valley.

Friday: A slight chance of snow after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 39.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33.
Wednesday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
