Temperatures are expected to drop this week as a cold front comes through the Lehigh Valley.

Highs starting Wednesday likely will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s before warming up over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

Forecasters said low temperatures will be several degrees below normal, likely hitting the low 40s.

Tuesday should be warm, with highs in the low 80s, while temperatures should drop Wednesday through Friday. Thursday should be the coolest, with a high of 68 and low of 45 expected then, according to forecasters.

Temperatures should be warmer over the weekend, with highs in the 80s, the weather service said.

No rain is expected this week, capping off a relatively dry September. Rainfall was about 2 inches below normal this month, according to weather service data.

Only 2.66 inches of rain was recorded the entire month in the Lehigh Valley, with the majority of that rain coming from a single day during the first week, that data states. Rainfall totals were at least an inch or more below normal in June, July and August. May was very rainy, with 10.45 inches of rain recorded for the entire month, nearly three times the normal amount.

The northern part of Lehigh and Northampton counties are under “abnormally dry” conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, which tracks and displays drought conditions throughout the country.
