The weekend in the Lehigh Valley will feature traditional August weather — hot and humid.
However, for those who don’t like the heat, things will change for the better Sunday night as a cold front arrives to pull temperatures down to begin the week. Also, a thunderstorm or two may pop up.
“A cold front passes through the region Sunday night then becomes stationary over the Mid- Atlantic into the new week,” the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey said in its forecast discussion. “High pressure builds in from the north through the middle to end of next week as Hurricane Erin passes by well offshore.”
The high temperature on Saturday will be 88 with a chance of thunderstorms in the early evening. It will be muggy overnight with temperatures in the low 70s.
Sunday is expected to be hotter with a high of 92 and a chance of rain in the afternoon. There could be a thunderstorm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
With the cooler high pressure moving in, temperatures on Monday will be in the 70s. There is a chance for periods of rain through Wednesday.
That high pressure should also keep Hurricane Erin well offshore, the NWS said, but those going to the beach next week should be aware of high surf, dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, otherwise partly sunny, high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Wednesday night: A chance of showers before 2 a.m., otherwise mostly cloudy with a low of 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high near 79.
Thursday night: Partly cloudy, low around 60.
Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 82.
