A feature-length documentary on Whitehall High School graduate and Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley is now available on Prime Video.
The film, titled “Saquon” covers five years of his life in the lead up to his Super Bowl win last season with the Eagles.
The documentary, produced by Martin Scorsese, was released Thursday on Amazon’s streaming platform, coinciding with the Eagles’ Thursday night game against the New York Giants. While the documentary shows his life on the field, it also focuses on the former Penn State football standout’s life as a father, according to a news release from Amazon.
His parents, Alibay Barkley and Tonya Johnson, and his fiancée, Anna Congdon, are among the people interviewed during the documentary. The trailer showed footage of him at the NFL Draft, his career with the Giants, and his contract negotiations that ultimately led him to sign with the Eagles, where he got his first Super Bowl win.
Filming began when he tore his ACL in 2020 while playing for the Giants. Barkley said the goal for the documentary was for it to be a story that kids can relate to, according to a New York Times report.
“You’re going to see the human side of me,” Barkley told The New York Times. “It lets people into my family, where I come from.”
Barkley recorded roughly 700 hours of footage over 127 days of filming during that time, and he conducted 35 interviews, using the camera as a “diary,” according to a report on the Eagles’ website. He said it helped him grow as a person, and that people will get a look into that journey, the report states.
The documentary is streaming exclusively on Prime Video and can be viewed by anyone with an Amazon Prime membership. However, if you’re not a member, you can join by starting a free 30-day trial.
A regular Prime subscription costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year, with discounts available for young adults. Those wanting to view Prime Video offerings without being full-fledged Prime members can subscribe to a Prime Video-only plan, for which a 30-day free trial is also available.
